Throughout history, earrings have been worn by both men and women. Thanks to the discovery of a 5,000-year-old mummy, we know that men have worn earrings at least as early as the Bronze Age. Throughout history, earrings have been worn to show either wealth or enslavement. Enslaved people wore earrings as a tag to show ownership; in some cultures, only the slaves wore earrings. In the 16th century, earrings became widely popular; pearl earrings were popular amongst the Romans as a sign of wealth and prestige. Early doctors believed earrings could cure headaches or improve eyesight. How amazing would that be! Today we wear earrings because they enhance our natural beauty, exhibit our personality, and for fashion and even social statements.
